The Healing Power of Language: Revitalizing Native American Languages
Inée Yang Slaughter will discuss why revitalizing Native American languages is critical to the well-being of the original peoples of this continent.
She says, “Of the original 500+ Indigenous languages in North America, today between 175 and 200 of them are severely endangered.”
Inée is a consultant and former Executive Director of the Indigenous Language Institute in Santa Fe, NM. She received her BA in French Literature from the University of California, Berkeley.
Before moving to Santa Fe in 1989 with her late husband, Paul Slaughter, she worked as Executive Assistant to the Director of the Getty Conservation Institute, overseeing international conservation projects. She has worked in the nonprofit sector for forty years.
Of Korean heritage, born and raised in Japan, she is fluent in Japanese, Korean, and English and has a working knowledge of French.
